Russian - German – Polish Youth Cooperation

The Summer Diplomatic School (SDS) is a project of the European Academy of Diplomacy (EAD) under the patronage of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (2011). The SDS aims to gather young leaders from Germany, Poland and Russia and become a platform of their education in international affairs. The SDS is intended for young professionals (from academia, public administration, non-governmental sector etc.). 15 participants (5 from each of the countries) will meet this July in Warsaw, Poland.

The President of Germany Christian Wulff, speaking at the ceremony to mark the 20 anniversary of German reunification, declared Islam a part of Germany. That statement angered conservatives from the German ruling coalition parties CDU and CSU, that stated their disagreement with Mr.Wulff.  Meanwhile, the German lefts (SPD and the Greens) demanded to give Islam an official status of officially recognized religious community in Germany, along with Christine and Jews.

The August war of 2008, the peace enforcement operation led by the Russian army and the following unilateral recognition of the South Ossetia and Abkhazia raised lots of concerns that the EU cannot build up any relationship with Russia on the basis of common values.

Adherence to common values usually interpreted as the observance of a number of liberal-democratic principles in the foreign and internal policy of a state was traditionally declared by the European partners as the main condition of a successful partnership.
